January is Going... Going...

I look up at my calendar, astonished that its almost February already!  I would never spell calendar right if not for spell check.  Productivity was the name of the game this week.  Mike go his bond, fictitious name statement and insurance.  Melinda & her Gal came over this week, I helped them get signed up for HTH.  It was great to see them.  We don't see them enough.  I need to go to Santee more.  My resolution to see my friends more is off to good start.  I also went to a seminar for Lapband out in La Mesa, given by the surgeon.  I am very excited to get this done, and I can see it being a step in the right direction for my lifestyle change.  There was a test to complete and send to the surgery center, I got my results back the next day, and next week I will get the referral from my doctor.  I have a new one, with my new insurance and he is diggable.  We are suppose to get a physical once a year, I haven't seen a doctor in over 5.  It was good, to get this started.  Thursday, Shea had her hiphop dance class after school and we went to Pizza Boss after.  Good thin pizza!  Next week is going to FLY, Shea has cotillion, I head back to school, there is a meeting about 6th grade camp and next Saturday is the day the blow up the South Bay Power Plant!  I am super stoked!

Could There Be a Manly Man?

Christ!
What is more manly.. the giant toolbox on his side of the bed.. or the half eaten pint of beans on it?
or the baseball or grenade?

No Way! Its Plucienik!

Thursdays is my day that I like to head down to the cafe for lunch.  Keeping costs down and excitement high, once a week is key!  So, Claudia & I are walking up and I hear "is that AGGONA?" and sure as shit, its my old dear pal, Todd.  One of my favorite people, he is.  When I first started in the whole tech world, it was Todd's patience that got me through.  That man walked me though configuring email clients and reinstalling DUN so many times, that we all knew what a dolt I was.  But it was his patience.. that I still think fondly on ;)

In 2003, 9 of us dorks from NH headed to Defcon in 3 cars.  I had booked us a penthouse suite at a condo timeshare thing and we proceeded to have a blast!  Here is Nate, Todd & Zrelac I think going though a drive though at like 6 am after being up all night. oh, Vegas you whore you !  Yep, 3 big geeks in the front on Ryan's truck.. I'll say 90% of the pics I have of Todd, I'm getting the bird. Well done sir! Let's go camping soon!

So, This is Healthcare!

My health insurance has kicked in! OMgosh! I have never been so excited!  Never has I has such awesomeness!  Monday, I got a complete physical from my new Dr. whom I think is cool.  Complete physical and no co-pay.  (nor Cosplay!) :)  I guess this will be something to do once a year, each January.
Tuesday, I went to my wonderful dentist, Dr. Rodney, whom I've been going to since before Shea had teeth.  I got a full cleaning, and he wants to put some ortho on me, just to make 'em perfectly straight and pretty!  Guess how much? That's right.. no co-pay!  Thursday, I picked up a prescription with my new "flex-spending" card for my HSA, it was soo easy!  Have a great job is cool and all, but I think this healthcare is by far, the biggest reward!  Its a nice security blanket making me all warm and snuggly!

Mommie Dearest + 1930's Theatre + Drag Queens = Win!

Monica & I took the girls to see Mommie Dearest at the North Park theater.  The film was put on by Film Out San Diego, and the room was stocked full of Queens et al!  They knew all the catchphrases and spoke right along with the dynamite Faye Dunaway.  It was one of the funniest evenings I have ever had!  We had dinner at Chop Suey next door, I wonder how long that place has been there, what a classic!

I wonder if the girls are scarred for life?  I know that movie frightened the crap out of me when I was young!

Have You Got Soul?

SO comes by and was like "What are you listening to?" and I could only spit out his obscure name, Glen Hansard.  What one simple beautiful song may only be in a second connected to one simple Irish name, the on and on wold have gone back to a long story of movies, the blues and why I crack up when I hear the name Gina  Lollobrigida. You see Glen Hansgard played the sweetheart of a guitarist in The Commitments. In 1991 Alan Parker of The Wall & Fame fame brought us the Saviors of Soul, a wonderful movie about Irish musicians channeling there inner Sam Cook's & Otis Redding's.  A joy of a movie!

January Back Up 2012

Every January, I find it best to buy a new external hard drive and I back my shit up.  First my pictures, then my docs, then my .mp3's.  Next up, I need to put the past years in the fire proof safe in storage, or maybe the safety deposit box, and check that my photos are safely in online photo albums. ;)

Friggin' Coachella Maan!

'Atta Boy!

My last "performance review" was at least 9 years ago! Back when NH was attempting to be legit, before the .com bust got the best of 'em.  I have begun a new career, and lo and behold, at 6 months in, I got a legit "review" and to my giddy, my review was good!  Not that I think I do poor work, I am just not use to getting an 'atta boy for my work done.  At my last desk, I felt I was the single person who, in my department, gave a damn.  I actually cared, I didn't think of our clients as "insert insult" but that wasn't enough to being ultimately laid off.  The industry was the reason, more so.  I see the owner in the neighborhood, and at every friend wave I get, I still think of the last 4 or so years without a review or an 'atta boy.  Not that there is a bitter resentment, I still am thankful for the tech job sans tech experience.  That offer put me on my way to a career off my feet, not serving coffee to drunks or eggs to the rest.  It gave me self worth, whereas before I had none.  So, I guess in the end, my pat on the head was really a stroke to that ego.  Hard to pay the bills on that. :)

Having started a new path, and I so excited.  My boss, my coworkers and the lot are just fantastic. I am a lucky girl.  It only takes one HR lady to get you into a 2nd interview, and so on.  /Thankful
