Beach Cities Shark Bites

We all got up at the ass crack of dawn to head up to Torrance. The Dollinquents vs Beach Cities Jrs, the Shark Bites.  HUGE thanks to the Tinkerhells for driving us, what a lovely family!

The bout was great, well matched. Both teams played hard and Bad Little Jamma planted Shea on her butt. Of course she got right up, but its great to see such a huge punch in a small girl. Shea is excited to play ON her team at Thankscrimmage.  The Shark Bites have a wonderful vibe, that of a new team that hasn't been jaded by age and bullshit.

And the Mess You're Making

Baby says she's dying to meet you
Take you off and make your blood hum
And tremble like the fairground lights

Baby says if ever you see skin as fair
Or eyes as deep and as black as mine
I'll know you're lying

Baby says a howl of romance I'll get
From all your sleeping dogs, you thugs of God
I'll get one yet

Baby says for all I've forsaken
Make something of all the noise
And the mess you're making
And all the time's it's taken

Baby says there's death in these silver curls
That break up in jails
Send you diving for pearls
Without a care in the world

Baby says she's dying to meet you
Take you off and make your blood hum
And tremble like the pinball lights

Baby says a howl of romance I'll get
From all your sleeping dogs, you thugs of God
I'll get one yet

League Practice for Newbies

There are some people, that when they invite you, you say yes. and Hartlyn is one of them.
After level 3 bootcamp, she invited all us 3s to league practice.
That is so intense, hitting pace-lines for what seems like FOREVER.. I called it after an hour.
But I am happy to say I got hit to the rail and to the infield and didn't fall, nor die. (as imagined)

Maybe I'll man up and do it again. (if invited of course)

< 3 Ben Weasel

I have been completely floored.
Screeching Weasel live was everything I hoped for and more. They ran thru every song at maximum speed and then straight into the next.
For such a massive catalog, he hit almost every favorite, they played - Hanging Around, Slogans, Making You Cry, Science of Myth, and A New Tomorrow, the only few that they didn't play that I notice and wished to hear was Automatic Rejector and Talk to Me Summer.

The intro was stellar, the jeweled jacked was stellar, and his voice was seriously spot freaking on.
I had it in my head that if the show started to suck, I was going to bail, but noooooo...

Totally neat totally sweet!
Totally knocked me off my feet!

I Got My Anthem for a New Tomorrow

I am a Screeching Weasel fan.
I am a huge fan of specific records and even more so of specific songs.
Since they NEVER toured, and I have never seen them, the bubble hasn't been popped yet.
The mystery remains, so to speak.

Its scary to see bands you love years past their prime. It could make (Naked Raygun) or break (everything else) the memory in your head.  So, tonight we will see, I'm off to finally see them.

So, please let Ben do me solid and not crush my love of his band.

Somehow no matter what the world keeps turning

Jam Reffing Mom Jammer Daughter

The Playing with Dolls camp this weekend was amazing. There were girls from a handful of leagues.
And Quadfather and Regulate-Her were coaching, and they really are just top notch.

The scrimmaged on Sunday and its so great to see the girls out there for the first time.
And for the first time I jam reffed while Shea jammed.  Was kinda surreal and just really cool.

Until she went down, tail bone on the coping, as she does and there was nothing I could do but get in line for the next line up.

Picnic-y Bits

Seriously.
He brought up a picnic to my office and it was the most thoughtful thing.
It makes me feel like blushing.

Who thinks to bring a container of ice, sugar, lemon wedges and ice tea?
He made little grilled cheeses on a baguette with pear and brie.
And a plate of cantaloupe wrapped in some fancy ham, giant black grapes, sliced apples with more fancy cheese.

Wonderful wonderful thoughtful man!

Banked Track Jam Reffing & Really FAST Jammers

I typically NSO in the Game Executioner spot. I've only really jacked up a few things in that position.
It's been about a year, when home season started last year, and I'd climb on the track and the teams would start whizzing by, a voice in the back of my head would start to ask
....."How the hell do I escape?!"
I could feel a panic attack approaching. It was a bit scary, and I was only the GE.
Unless its the last jam and that last whistle could effect a lead change, chances are I am not pissing off anyone too bad.

The panic button is off now, and I feel like I can GE without much of a second thought.

I want to skate ref, because I like to skate.
However, the chances of fucking that up.. is exponential larger!

I walk in and Erin's like "your skate reffing'
ARGH! FINE!

So, I did jam ref once on our flat track and that was .. eh ok...
Not too much fear of being creamed by the pack or a wayward apex jumper.
However, the banked infield is so much tighter with the team benches, penalty boxes and ALL NSO's in it.

The crazy feeling of looking at the jam line and thinking "oh sh*t! its "so n so" be ready to RACE!"
The highest scoring jam was Injie for 20 points. That is 5 laps in 1 minute. Lady is FAST!
The crazier feeling of Boo tapping her hips and she turns her head and slow motion (it seems) and yells directly at me "I"M CALLING IT OFF" and the time lapse from that tap to the whistle takes FOREVER!

I called my first penalty on Anita for a low block, and of COURSE her number wasn't on her arm or shirt, so I'm like "UGH BLUE PIVOT LOW BLOCK UGH" :)

The worst  tho, was my jammer was lead, and she comes flying HIGH in the apex and as she crashes on her knees and takes out a blocker (lowblock) she is calling it off and I swear AT THE SAME TIME the not lead jammer jumps the apex and takes out a blocker (lowblock) and her Jam Ref is yelling LEAD CHANGE while it seemed like I was tweeting. It was a shit storm, obviously it was challenged and I obviously learned alot. and obviously the captain came into the ref room after for further clarification.

Obviously was doing my best. :) That's all I can do.
