Summertime Rolls

Even this close to midnight on a Thursday, I can roll a block to buy a 6 pack, passing the Navy guys at the bar, freely talking like its the first time they've been able to in months, it is. Passing the Nazarene kids wildly eating burritos as if it were a sin. Strolling past my Schnizel, always playing the best tunes, tonight, it being Dead or Alive, and on to my 711, ran by Ethiopians. Sometimes, I am loose at tongue, and speak my three words in Farsi, sometimes I use my King's English, pleases and thank you's.... I prefer my Farsi.

Honestly, I am not sure if they take it as me trying to learn something about there culture, or if I come across rude.

My 711, my taco shops, my neighborhood is usually full of servicemen, Navy and Marines. When they are in uniform, Shea is taken aback. I tell her to listen, to them. As their words are respectful.

One day, we were in Hectors, for breakfast burritos. Three servicemen walked in, and an older civilian man asked them if they were off the ship that just came in. The serviceman delivered his answer to the older civilian man beginning his reply with "sir". Well, actually, "no sir".. but still "sir".

I asked Shea if she noticed.

Each week my neighborhood prolly has more crime, than the average Midwestern town.

FACT.

But, when you choose your home, and you choose a place for your kids to be raised in, I am content with my choice. The rich history of the Navy and Portuguese fishing industry juxtaposed with the free and wild beach community on the other side of the hill, I think all of us who live here, and thrilled with our choice to choose this peninsula as our home.

If you have a plan to motor west.. and you travel my way..
please come by, I'd love to show you around, my home, the peninsula of
Point Loma & Ocean Beach.

With that, I am so excited to have half of Mikee's family traveling in this weekend AND CLEABEAN!!!!!

Bonfire's & Beachtime

Sometimes, living so close to the beach, I forget to do beach stuff! Christie had a bonfire and I am glad we went. When was the last time we had smores on the beach?

Measuring Time - Birthday to Birthday

Tomorrow is a day of measurement, per se. It's Mikee's bday, don't mention it to him however, he will tell you that if there is a cake, you will be defriended. :) I took a gander at the past few years, 3 actually, to our first "Mikee's bday" together, I look at my weekly activities, and aside from working alot, its hard to belief how messy my other shit was. The calendar is covered in payday loans! Oddly enough, three years later, on a fixed income, less than half of what I was pulling in my heyday of employment, and I haven't heard that evil world "payday loan" since the fateful day, I swore myself off them, cold turkey!

This year for Mikee's birthday, we're going to the gun range, and I got us tickets to see Holly Golightly! However, next weekend is the real deal, we're having dinner at Volare with Maria, Mikee's mom, his sister, her daughter, his brother, his lady and their kiddos PLUS my TWO girls! And we got some big presents to open then, and he will definitely be getting a cake! dammit.

Its amazing in this life, when you find someone who not only steps up to the plate, but knocks it out of the ballpark. Over these past few years, he has been the perfect mate for me, and a wonderful role model for Shea. We are lucky. So, his birthday will be fantastic!

Modern Marvels :)

We had At&t U-verse for less than 24 hours this past week, I still need return all those dang boxes. Argh.. There was a show on, that I was stoked on, it was like the top 100 things that changes are lives, gadget speaking. I only saw it for a second, before I was off flipping though my 2000 channels of not much on. I saw the fiberglass fishing pole, Mikee said that the #1 was the smart phone. Got to admit, I love my smart phone!

Ya know what I really dig tho? I REALLY dig my coupons in my email.. that I signed up for, my Groupons, and Reader, and Daily Save and all those! We go to places that we normally wouldn't go to, I just got one for horse riding lessons for $24 dollars! LOVE IT!

Mtv Real World Giving the Old Annoynace to Bird Rock

Well Done Mtv

Obviously, you have to one up the last. Obviously, Bird Rock is newsworthy due to these here "bandits" who from what I understand, are the overgrown, alcohol overindulged, too much money offspring of the home owners of that neighborhood. So, why not send the 7 binge drinking whores over there to see how well they mesh with the Bird Rock crew? Perhaps the outcome will be another rape or murder?

Granted, I was an avid watcher when the show premiered, which was more about the 7 strangers learning to deal with each others differences. Over the years, it has been nothing but dunking them in booze first, then igniting the fire. A nightmare to watch. I feel bad for the Bird Rock neighborhood.

The last house the Real World occupied is a few blocks from my house, and they still haven't renovated it, it just sits there.. sad and alone.

Well Done, Just Another Car Crash

We were driving back yesterday, headed westerly on Lytton/Barnett and around the corner of the entrance to NTC, to find what was left of a pretty back car crash.
We found out from our friends at Sail Ho, that a woman driver and 3 passengers, came across the turn at 4am, and went into golf course parking lot, and pushed their shed off its foundation. However, they were so lucky, the car skidded right between to wooden power poles, and nearly missed a concrete garbage container. The Sail Ho ladies said that they 4 left the car a bloody mess and were no where to be found that next morning. However, she did call, and say that she did that, and asked if they'd like her insurance info.....

Happy Fathers Day , Thanks for Nothing

Dad #1, Thanks for Nothing

My biological dad left me memories of stalking and harassment. Or at least, at 4 years old that was the impression I was left with. Regardless, after a mother and daughter were sent on a state to state flee, he was 100% gone by 1978. I was left with nothing of that. My mother could or would not explain anything to me, the facts I'm left with are that he has a full beard by the age of 14, knocked up my mother when they lived on Colfax, and his father was a jeweler and his mother's name was Mary, and were from Cincinnati. Gee, thanks for all that.

Dad #2, Thanks for making it worse,

My step dad came into the picture when I was 4. He and his brother were in and out of prison when I was very young. Of course, no one spoke of it, as if it never happened. When they finally got "their household" in order, he kept jobs for the uneducated and my mother stayed employed as a waitress. The days growing up, were nothing but a daily party fest for them. If I were to go thru this stack of pictures when I was growing up, it would be hard to NOT find beer cans and trays of pot in in them. I thought it was normal. The older I get the more angry I get.

My "dad" did little to prepare me for the future of success. I inherited a tolerance for booze and a disrespect for society. I was doomed.

When I was 21 or 22 or so, he was arrested for something so bad, I can't even mention it here, and I am not even going to get into that know. He went to back to prison, for 8 years, and it was just another thing that we didn't talk about.

With that, Happy Father's Days, you two fucking failures.

2 More Hours To Go

And Shea is done! We can start our summer! However, I'm pretty sure she doesn't know what is in stall for her. A giant list of stuff to learn! Her promotion couldn't have been better. Yes, I guess it could have if her dad could keep his mouth shut with the running commentary during the commencement, but alas, Shea have a speech that was only given to her that morning, and she nailed it.

I was happy that Uncle Pat and Aunt Maddy came to make her day even better! Afterwards we took her to "wherever she wanted to go" for lunch, and she choose Dennys. :( But, we went. Mikee gave her his netbook, and the look on her face when she opened it was priceless. But with this comes so much responsibility, we have been mulling it over for a while now, and welp... the kid has had her own cell phone since Christmas and she has not lost it, misused it, abused it or pissed me off with it. That little phone is in pristine condition. So, we will see how the computer goes.

We only got a few weeks to go, until everyone gets here! Clea gets her the 3rd, Mike's mom, Megan and Addy the 3nd and Bryan, Crystal & the boys on the 1st! We are so looking forward to the big weekend!

Then the big month with the Bean here! So much fun!

damn YOU may grey~!

More Sweet Than Bitter, Bitter Than Sweet

I keep using the word "bittersweet" to explain these past few weeks. Shea is leaving OBE. It seems just like yesterday, I was wrestling with the choice where to send her.
And in only 3 days, she will do her little parade through the auditorium and call it an era. I attended my last OBE PTA meeting last night. Not for any reason, but to just go one last time. For the great time time has had there, for all the amazing teachers, this kid is mentally ready for her next challenge. To which I am so glad it isn't the other way around, and I was having to drag her kicking and screaming. :)
She has started her 5th grade books at the academy, and I think she will have a good head start come this fall. The Bean told me how bored she was the other day, and it got me to thinking about what we were doing back home in the summer. Lets.. see.. I was laying around watching TV, sure I'd go and play, but I also remember alot of "its too hot to go outside!" as well. I really wasn't' too engaged, hell, Mom was still pulling her 40 hour work week, I was just learning to cook on my own.

This will be the last summer, that I get so spend with the kids and I'm very excited to make it a lot of fun!

94.9 Indie Jam in the O-Side

Somehow, I always think Oceanside is a full hour away, really its not, when the traffic Gods are on your side! We checked into a really shitty motel, kicked it by the pool, ate lunch at a really shitty pub on the main drag, then headed to the pier in the early afternoon. I was surprised it wasn't more like Street Scene, but it was still fun.

I think the Crocodiles played my favorite set!

And I have no idea what homie is doing here...

The drive home, we stopped in Carlsbad, which comes from the German Karlsbadd, I read, at Tip Top European meats.. A German themed deli, it was really cool and we need to go back again soon!
