Fleet Week 2012

As you live here longer, you realize the one day a year you are allowed on Navy bases, as a civilian. At Sub-Base, its the Cabrillo Festival and for 32nd Street it is Fleet Week.  They invite you to tour the destroyers, hold the rocket launchers and do pull up with SEALS.  Its a trip.  I read in a book by William Cooper, and he noted that the reason we hire politicians is so we don't have to think about the day to day running the country.  Therefore the reason we have all this military is so we sleep safe at night.  I can argue my opinion of wars is places like the Middle East, my opinion of the super pro military gun show people, however, the seeing all these weapons in person and being on a base like this is like another world.  It is, a military world.  To stand in the shadow of those warships and look out to the Silver Strand and know damn well, that they can blow that small land bridge up to get these ships out to sea.  Makes a person feel small.
I also, hear the rumor that subs can go under Point Loma to get out to see in an emergency.  I have seen the Navy training seals in the bay.  Amazing what they can do.

Tunes, Books, Birds & Boats

Spent some time at Shelter Island this week, Supertramp & Bonnie Raitt both played at Humpheys, fed the birds and wrapped up in blankets to read.

HTMMA Back to School Night

Shea's Humanities teacher was a student at HTH, that is cool.  HTH helps their teachers obtain higher degrees, Shea's Math & Science teacher is working on her 2nd Masters, that is also cool.  I still don't have everything figured out with this new school but I think she likes it more than Dana. I think so far, she is getting more smarts in her head, which is the important thing.  I can definitely see the different style of teaching.  We have been reading more together.  We read The Cay, Island of the Blue Dolphin and I zoomed through One Crazy Summer and she is still trying to get into it.  It is tough to explain the 60's do an 11 year old.  The Civil Rights movement and how that generation change the course of our history.  Currently, we are halfway though Wonderstruck, and it is amazing!  Highly recommended :)
I also like the idea that the after school program hosts dances.

We Like the Cars, the Cars that go Boom!

Shea & I went to Con Pane for breakfast, there is this Cobb Sandwich with Kalabatta bread that is amazing and worth the lengthy wait.  We were surprised there was a car show at Liberty Station. Always something going on over there :)

Mike has been pacing around with the thought of buying a Jeep Laredo that is for sale next door for a camping car.  Plus, we're gonna need something to pull our dream boat  :)  And to trailer our dream hot rod :)

Falls Here and I'm Back

With a painful August page turned, September looks inviting.  Schools in, works good and its cooling down outside.  We have had some fun times so far this month.  We ended summer with a camping trip to San Clemente.  I rate this 3rd on the beach camping so far.  San Elijo has a taco shop and South Carlsbad has a store, San Clam had neither.  Plus tent sites were far back from the cliff, we couldn't hear the waves crash.  Which is the big deal for beach camping, right?  It was still beautiful, but damn hot!  I'd like to take our bikes up there and check out the little beach town more.

The campsites were cool, they came with a cover, plus we had a great tree for our neighbors hammock.

And of course, we stopped at Tip Top Meats on the way home. Love that place :)

Swiss had his 1st year birthday party, Shea did a great job hosting, with snacks & games.

After the hamster party, we took the girls to Coronado via the water taxi, a fun little ride!

There is lots of excitedment going at down at the Navy pier, I am super excited to see how it will turn out.  Any update will be fantastic!

Sunday night for Labor Day weekend, Mikee & I high tailed it out of town to Palm Springs for dinner, drinks and a little gambling.  It was only a high of 110 degrees... :)
Just nice to be able to bounce when ya need to bounce.

I got some new records this weekend.  My new favorite is Alabama Shakes, bad ass!  Muscle Shoals rock.

Crystal Fighters

Of Monsters and Men

Which is kinda in the Mumford Sons/ Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros style, so I will prolly not be too into it soon.  I also got the Fiest discography.
Did I mention Stan Ridgeway cancelled his show at Pappi & Harriets? Superbummed.!

I think today is for Pedicures & bike riding! :)  Here's to a good week!
