Another Shooting & My Desensitation

I am sitting at my desk, in the front window of my apartment.  The morning marine layer has the sky hazy and my back is turned to the talking box, left on Fox News.  A report is "interviewing" someone up the ladder over in the Aurora police department.  Words spew in the form of questions from the one at the other.  The words are full of connotation, with the underlying meaning of "scare the fuck out of everybody!"  Implications keep getting made that there is another "bad guy" out there, who will kill you.  Bad shit happens, and I just don't understand how new stations froth at the mouth, making it bigger and worse.  Yes, it is bad but shit!

Then the obligatory conversation begins across the land.
Argument A - Guy has high powered weapons, how are these people able to get assault weapons.  If there were less guns like this, this is less likely to occur.
Argument B - If more people had guns, then guy holder would have shot the bag guy.  (Not taking into consideration that bad guy was wearing Kevlar)

And the postings begin flying back and forth on the social media feeders... as it does...

I am not prone to react much more.  Which it can agreed that my stoic vibe here, is bad.. but .... :(

Del Mar Fair 2012

July 3rd, 2nd to last day of the fair.  They were offering some good fair deals this year, a month pass and the 2$ taste of the fair day.  It may be hella expensive to hit the fair, but if you search out the deals, budgeting is possible.
We took the coaster up, $10 for both Shea & I to avoid $15 parking fees and traffic headaches.  Albeit Mikee came up later and dealt with an over an hour of traffic to park. :(

After Sorrento Valley, when the Coaster hits the beach... the views are amazing.

This years theme was "Out of This World"
We went on a "kids free day" to save fair admission for Shea, I bought mine online with a tickets for a lower price too.  We were able to try Deep Fried Pineapple, Twinkies, Oreos, Spareribs, Meatballs, Chili Cheese Fries, Cream-puffs, Tacos, and so much more I cannot even remember it all.  But the 2$ deal gave you just a sample.  Try everything without the guilt. :)  We rode rides, saw only one parent with a lost kid, obligatory farm animals, Shea became a lion, rode an elephant, did a zipline, and the gondola.

Walkin' in OB Summer 2012

I've been seeing these stencils around on the sidewalk.  Pretty cool! Look Ma, graffiti isn't all ugly :)

The Recycled Art at OBE looks fantastic in the garden!

Cruising by Apple Tree, was the Lion Cut

I always wondered if there was a 2 for 1 special at Scheibs... :)

Safari Park July 2012

Shea's BFF Savy joined us on our venture up the 15 to the Safari Park, nee Wild Animal Park.  Why did they change the name?  Escondido is too friggin hot.

So hot, that you are counting the minutes to leave, as soon as you get there. :(

The lioness was crashed out, but her old man's balls were totally on display.

Shea asked why had had 3.... :)

Tour guide said this dude's horns were 4 feet long!

San Diego Zoo.. Just Poppin' In

When living in San Diego, having a zoo pass is a must.  Less then $100 for 2 adults and less than $40 for a kid for a years admission is one helluv a bargain.  The summer Zoo at Night, is great, then sun begins to set, the big cats come out, and the tourists are on the way out.  It feels like you have the place to yourself. :)

This year, they have Steam Powered Giraffe playing as you walk in, super cool!

Free gondola ride are included!  Who doesn't love that?

As the sun goes away, the peacocks are loudly vocal with their requests for you to "Get Out"!

The Polar Bears however, are sleeping, so they opted to hang with the silver versions.

The Zebras were down to hang out.

The Red Panda was my choice to take home.

Big Bay Boom Bust

For the 4th of July, we actually ventured out by beach cruiser.  Typically, we venture out of dodge.  2010 we went to an Indian Casino and last year, we spent in Old Town with the Nichols Clan and das Bean at the Best Western.  We cruised the whole bay, starting off by giving Point Break Cafe a 2nd chance.  This is an old Boll-weevil building down on Shelter Island Drive.  Odd, it is a windowless, red shingled A frame, amongst amazing Polynesian architectural.  It stands out like a smelly gym sock in a drawer of Fredrick's of Hollywood.  Last year, we rode the Taste of Shelter Island, where you hit up each participating restaurant, and they give you a taste of their offerings.  I love a Taste of This and That, cool way to get out in your hood, and go places you may not have normally gone and try fares you may normally not.

2011's Shelter Island grub walk featured thew newly opened Point Break Cafe.  I hoped for the best, but remember the shit hole it was before and last year, it was the same shit hole.  It has been a year, and it was a holiday, we parked our bikes and held our breaths and ventured in again.  Not greeting by anyone in the front, walked up to the bar, ignored by long haired hippy looking barkeep, asked for a few beers and rather just GIVING THEM TO US, the dumbass was like "I'll have the server bring them to you outside".... We has been happy to see they installed a patio, and were planning on sitting out there.  The inside feels like a dungeon.  Dude was talking to one other jaggoff at the bar, he couldn't have just greeting us when we walked in the friggin door, opened our bottles and been a normal guy? Wtf...  We go outside, there are maybe 7 oddly shaped tables, mismatched with mismatched chairs, a few ragged umbrellas.  One table has a couple eating, there table has dirty dishes, and empty glasses.. same with the solo dude, who is drawing some arts.  Scoping out a clean table, we are met with a dirty ashtray on each table and end up moving to the far end of the window seat, that was the least dirty.  Server lady brings our bevos out like ten minutes later.  While we sucked down one beer quickly to leave, we didn't see table get cleaned, and one other other 2 top came in and stood there with the same expression we did... looking around for the least offensive table.  The menu is long and dumb.  Don't they watch Chef Ramsey, of the Bar Guy who turns bars/restaurants around.. Don't put everything under the sun on your stupid menu.  I'll go back in a year, prolly to repeat the same words here.. The owner must be special needs.  To let any land go wasted on Shelter Island makes you lame.

We left there, and headed to the our go-to spot for the best cocktail sauce EVER and a cheeseburger that will make you cry it is so good.  Mitch's at Fisherman's Landing.  Our only :( is they don't have Coors Light on tap, the food is so good so it makes up for it.

We swung home, and I painted the patio bar pink and the chairs.. did some gardening til we headed out again.  We swung by Oggi's, and headed to Harbor Island. There is a deli there, under the Boathouse, that has deviled eggs with a jalapeno slice on it that keeps beer on ice.  Their patio over looks the marina and the San Salvador.  Can't beat that!  We swung thru the Level C patio, before headed to downtown.  I was surprised it was too crowded, we could still get our bikes thru.

We got in line at Anthony's Fish Grotto a good 10 minutes early, and we heard this...

Thinking it was a warm up, we jockey'd for position on the deck behind Anthony's.  And we waited, and waited, 9:30 rolled around and word go around that the boom we heard was the bust.  It will be an unforgettable 4th, ironically the day we head downtown to actually watch the fireworks :)
